Buhr Park Hockey Rink, Ann Arbor, MI

The goal of the Buhr Park project was to provide an up-to-date facility for the area's hockey leagues to play in. This involved the demolition of the existing ice rink which no longer provided a smooth surface. A new slab and shelter was proposed for the site. Kelly-Tinker created a 3D model of the existing park building and the proposed shelter. Drawings were created for the conceptual phase of the project which included meetings for input from the public. The original program and design called for an enclosed structure with attachment to and modification of the existing park building. Budget restraints within the Parks Department resulted in a roofed pavilion being constructed to cover the new slab. The image below shows an interior of the new facility as proposed including a two stage energy efficient lighting system.
