Ed Kelly is a registered Architect in the State of Michigan. Having obtained both advanced architectural and aerospace engineering degrees from the University of Michigan in the early 1970's, he has since worked as a practicing Architect on many commercial, institutional, governmental, religious and residential projects. Ed started Kelly Associates / Architects in 1987 and then in association with Bob Tinker, Kelly-Tinker Architects in 1992. He has been a draftsman, project designer, technical consultant, an office manager and a principal of several architectural firms over his 23 year career. Integrating "energy intelligent" green architecture that is sensitive to and influenced by the local building site, natural vegetation, solar cycles and the Client's desired building function(s), budget and esthetics has been a lifelong pursuit for Ed. Quick to analyze and conceive an overall building design concept to the pragmatic and practical building design solutions, he has been well received by his Clients, resulting in repeat business, praise and Client referrals. Ed is the principal in charge of the day-to-day business and production operations the firm.

Ed's dual architectural and engineering professional experience includes being uniquely suited to developing new projects from site and building design through architectural and engineering contract documents. He has extensive experience in designing passive and hybrid solar heated buildings. Ed's has extensive experience and knowledge of "energy intelligent" site / building design; green architecture; passive, active and hybrid solar heating systems; natural daylighting techniques; air quality control; radiant hydronic heating systems and high efficiency HVAC equipment. As a part-time college instructor, he currently teaches construction materials and blueprint reading college courses and has taught several advanced passive solar design courses.

Ed's computer experience includes proficiency with several major platforms and with a variety of software. With some initial coaching from Bob Tinker, he has become highly proficient in Computer Aided Design and Drafting. He is mostly self taught on a high-end architectural CADD package, Architrion, and has 7 years into 3D modeling and design.

Bob Tinker is a registered Architect in the State of Michigan. He is native to the Ann Arbor area. He obtained his architectural degree from the University of Michigan. He has worked in many areas of the Profession before joining Kelly-Tinker Architects. He has been a laborer, draftsman, model maker, planner, designer, consultant, and more. Architecture has been a lifelong pursuit for Bob. His architectural style is eclectic which allows flexibility for fulfilling the desires of his clients.

Bob's working experience in the field of energy is extensive and spans most of his career. He has evaluated and recommended energy improvements for homes and multi-family structures including high rises, and for a wide variety of commercial, non-profit, and institutional buildings. He designed solar heating systems in the 1980's including active air and water systems and passive solar heated buildings. Bob's knowledge of energy use in buildings extends to lighting systems including efficient technology, controls, and natural daylighting and HVAC including air quality, radiant heating, and high efficiency equipment.

Bob's computer experience has grown with the times. He is experienced with the major platforms and with a variety of software. It was he who spearheaded Kelly-Tinker's move into Computer Aided Design and Drafting. He is self taught on a high-end architectural CADD package, Architrion, and now has 8 years into 3D modeling and design. He has been responsible for purchasing decisions for all hardware and software for the firm. This web site was designed and created by Bob.
