Main Street Lunch Addition - Greenfield Village Dearborn, Michigan |
View from Corner of Bagley and Main - Note the Elm Tree which was Saved
The Main Street Lunch Addition was designed for Henry
Ford Museum - Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Michigan. An
existing lunch facility within the Village was too small to
accommodate the many school children who visit on field
trips. Kelly-Tinker's design produced a building roughly 25'
by 82' aligning to the south edge of the existing building
and running lengthwise to the west. This allowed for
vehicular access to support functions behind the existing
building and the potential to preserve existing trees. The
timber frame structure has 5 large overhead garage doors
which when opened allow the lunch room to be open to the
exterior. It can be closed up at night and during inclement
weather. It has its own simple efficient lighting and
heating systems. The dining area is extended to the north
beneath a modular trellis mirroring the trellis covered
seating to the north of the existing lunch building. The
building exterior uses form and detailing in keeping with
the turn of the century buildings nearby.
